Protective light curtains are electro-sensitive devices that use one or more light rays emitted by the emitter and received by the receiver to create an intangible controlled area.
The fundamental characteristics are:
Type of security – defines the principles of self-control and safety contained in the device; it must be selected depending on the level of risk that characterizes the machine.
Protected height is the height controlled by the light curtain. If it is horizontal, this value indicates the depth of the protected area.
Range is the maximum working distance that can exist between the transmitter and receiver. When using deflecting mirrors, it is necessary to take into account the attenuation coefficient introduced by each of them, which is about 15%.
Response time is the time during which the light curtain transmits an alarm from the moment the protected area is interrupted.
Resolution – Resolution of the light curtain is the minimum size of an object that, placed in a controlled area, obscures the controlled area and, therefore, stops the dangerous movement of the machine.
